What Is Weatherwax
The city purchased these 121 acres of unplatted, undeveloped land in July 1999. The three parcels of property making up the Weatherwax lie east of Canal Drive SE, south of Ocean Lake Way and Overlake, and west of Duck Lake Drive NE. The west parcel is approximately 1/2 mile long and 1/4 mile wide, and is divided into two sections by a north/south road, a permanent easement. The property is currently zoned R-1 for single family residential. The compehensive plan proposes P-1, Parks and Recreation, for the west parcel and P-2, Public Use, for the center and east parcels.
- East Parcel 11.15 Acres 1,325 Lineal Ft on Duck Lake
- Center Parcel 8.6 Acres 1,844 Lineal Ft on Duck Lake
- West Parcel 71.6 Acres 2,637 Lineal Ft on Duck Lake
- Lake Parcel 29.65 Acres Under the Lake
The citizens of Ocean Shores OWN this property. Let us preserve this pristine area for today and tomorrow. If it is lost to development, we will never get it back.

An expedition of Master Gardeners on an exploratory mission to look at ferns and mosses saw this massive wolf tree. This photo is of a very large tree in the Weatherwax along a deer trail. It's amazing that such a large old tree exists in the middle of Ocean Shores. It supports what little wild life that remains. Does anyone know if there are other trees like this a mile from the Ocean> Trees are rapidly disappearing as Ocean Shores becomes overly developed.
